Buying Travel to Impact Social Good

A small but influential group of travel managers look for preferred suppliers that work for social good, called social enterprises. Social enterprises are businesses that allocate at least 50 per cent of profits for philanthropy. For some travel managers, impacting social good through travel means changing preferred suppliers to those who use their profits to positively affect others, such as through charitable donations. However, there are few travel suppliers who are social enterprises, so managers have been directed to “secondary suppliers,” such as purveyors of tea, coffee, beer, wine, toiletries, stationery and plants.
