The sun gods smiled on TOPAC’s Tee Off For Tiny Tots Golf Tournament with an incredible day supported by 76 players raising $14,000.

Not a cent was wasted with every dollar going directly to the school said MyEscapades' Firdosh Bulsara. While Bulsara was certainly the front man of the event, he made it very clear that Christy Bulsara and the numerous volunteers from South African tour operators deserved the credit for raising $91,000 over the past 9 years.

After witnessing the hardship of a teacher in a rural South African community, Marianne Schaubeck of Reservations Africa went to the small town to teach children. Schaubeck talked with other members of TOPAC and Tee Off For Tiny Tots was born.

The event raises money to build and maintain preschools in impoverished rural Africa and needs to raise $50,000 annually. Starting with humble beginnings of providing much needed school supplies, they built and supported the Mazinyane Preschool which teaches over 450 children.

This year’s tournament showcased great camaraderie as participants including Joel Kopstick, Uniglobe (Eastern Canada) networked after a fun afternoon on the Caledon Country Club course. “It’s remarkable what they have achieved and how many children they have helped in such a short time,” he said.

Phillip Solomon, GM of Tourcan Vacations, spent the day handing out food and selling raffle tickets. “It is very important to support the destinations that have been so good to us. Suppliers have to be involved in these local communities that need it,” he said.

Through the generosity and efforts of TOPAC and The Canada-Southern Africa Chamber of Business members, it makes you proud to be a Canadian knowing that in a little school in South Africa, a child is running around with a Canadian flag on their cheek.
