Calling 911 On The Sand Floor

I get very excited about the idea of an emergency meeting, Pumpkins. All adrenalin and urgency. I love urgency. The only so-called emergency meeting I’m ever asked to is when there are leftover cocktail party bottles: “Hey Ivanna! 'Emergency' meeting in the copy room.” Great. I’ll grab some nuts.

When Sandals calls an emergency meeting, dahrlings, it’s a whole other pair of shoes. Travel agents have been summoned on an all-expenses paid trip to Sandals Emerald Bay in Exuma to discuss the Soon Come Back program. Pink sand and umbrella drinks lack a bit of the gravitas one associates with a crisis. Nonetheless, the issue is serious – as issues involving commission cuts always are.

I think back to 1995 and try and imagine Delta inviting travel agents on an all expense paid retreat to Georgia to review the annihilation of commissions. “We are planning to decimate the travel industry. Mint juleps anyone?”
