Lucky them: the clients who get to fly up front, ride in limos and stay in 5-star luxury. In YTO, there’s no shortage of high-class digs for them. In our last look at some of the city’s newest, posh hostelries, we visit a property whose name is familiar to many on the celeb-watching circuit.

Trump International Hotel & Tower

Opening date: January 31, 2012
Number of rooms: 260
Ambience: Nouveau and riche

The smallest of the hotel lobbies visited in this series, the intimate space at the Trump is everything that glitters and black, sort of what I imagined for a Trump Hotel. A sparkling freeform sculpture hangs on the wall behind the reception desk and pot lights reflect off the shiny marble floor. Not a place that invites lingering: there’s seating for just a handful of people on the perimeter of the room and nothing much to see apart from a small display case featuring beautifully crafted chocolates (including a pair of almost life-size chocolate high heels) created by the hotel’s own chocolatier. Off the lobby is a small, onyx coloured bar where the lack of buzz was made up for by the incredibly friendly staff. Within moments of plunking myself down, I was offered a bottle of water. I also loved the cheery guy in white gloves who raced to push the elevator button for guests and condo residents alike.

Have any celebrities stayed with them? “We do not give out names of celebrities who have stayed or who are staying with us, but there have been many. And at time of this writing, we have 2 in-house in town promoting their latest film to be released in early 2013.”
What’s the oddest request their concierge has dealt with to date? “1 of the unique requests our concierge team has received was to bring a tattoo parlour to the hotel within 90 minutes for an A-List VIP. The artist came with all his equipment and the VIP and his friends all decided to get tattoos.”
