Bruce Bishins died on January 16, 2013 on the occasion of his 62nd birthday.
I remember many occasions, Pumpkins, when Bishy and I lay back with a smoke, exhausted from a heated night of debating. We didn’t see eye to eye on many issues. And the man of a thousand words knew how to press my buttons on legislation, regulations and rulings, like nobody’s business.
He would bring me to the height of anger and frustration with his lingual gymnastics - and a vocabulary unmatched even by the great Conrad Black - then leave me to writhe in my inadequate command of synonyms.
He was a master. It was humiliating.
I used to say, “Bruce, when my time comes, this is how I want to go. In the throes of one giant orgiastic deliberation.” But alas, Pumpkins, this is not to be. The indefatigable defender of travel agents far and wide has left us, dahrlings. I miss him.
Who will deliver the morning press volley before ACTA has even had their morning waffle? Who will explain the nuances of worldwide distribution data feeds? IATA bylaws? How to program your TiVo?
Bruce has gone too soon. We still need him.
