Air Canada To Dominate Summer Capacity, Both Transborder and International

On the heels of reporting positive fourth quarter earnings, Air Canada has announced expanded summer 2022 flight schedules, noting its leadership in terms of seats, frequency and route networks.

Calling it the ‘most extensive network from Canada to global destinations’, Air Canada is relaunching 34 international routes to Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

With regard to the offering, the carrier states that its ‘leadership and unique extensive network will stimulate the recovery of the travel and tourism industry’.

Closer to home, Air Canada will operate to 51 Canadian and 46 U.S airports and offer customers ‘the largest network and most travel options of any Canadian carrier’. The title of the release reads “Air Canada Affirms Market Leadership”.

The messaging is clear. As the market begins to recover, the gloves are off and Air Canada is asserting its position as the dominant Canadian carrier.

International Schedule

Air Canada is relaunching 23 routes across the Atlantic and Pacific.

Beginning in MAR, non-stop services will resume from YYZ to Tel Aviv (TLV), Paris (CGD), Tokyo and Amsterdam (AMS).

Service from YUL to Casablanca (CMN), Nice (NCE), Algiers (ALG), Rome (FCO), Tel Aviv (TLV) and Tokyo will also be resuming.

From YVR, Air Canada will be offering service to Frankfurt (FRA), Dublin (DUB), and Zurich (ZRH).

Air Canada is also relaunching service to popular tourist destinations such as Barcelona, Budapest, Copenhagen, Madrid, Milan, and Venice, which had been suspended since the beginning of the pandemic in MAR 2020.

North America Schedule

Air Canada is launching new North American service on four transborder and three domestic routes, as well as the restoration of 41 routes across the continent. In total, Air Canada will operate to 51 Canadian and 46 U.S airports this summer.

New services to the U.S. include YUL to Atlanta and Detroit, YYZ to Salt Lake City, and YVR to Austin.

New domestic routes on offer include YUL and Gander, YYC and Fort St John, and YVR and YHZ.

Additionally, service will be restored on 41 North American city pairs: 13 routes from YYZ, nine from YUL, five from YOW, five from YVR, four from YYC, three from YHZ, and two from YEG.

Galardo added that all of Air Canada's 23 Maple Leaf Lounges are open in time with the airline's expanded schedule.
