Expedition cruise operator Adventure Canada is imposing fuel surcharges to upcoming trips. On 21MAR, the company sent notice to advisors, which read:
"As we’re sure you’ve been following in the recent news, the costs of basic commodities around the world are rising dramatically.
In just the past few days, fuel prices have spiked and are anticipated to stay at this rate or higher for the rest of the summer and potentially well into the future.
This is an unfortunate global situation outside of our control. We regret that we are left with no choice but to implement fuel surcharges for our upcoming 2022 and 2023 expedition seasons.
For all 2022 Arctic expeditions, we are adding a fuel surcharge of $44 USD per person per day to the expedition fee. Any new bookings on our 2022 Atlantic Canada expeditions will also have this fuel surcharge applied. If you have clients scheduled on any of the affected 2022 departures, this amount has been added to their final invoice, unless they have already paid in full.
For all 2023 expeditions, we are adding a fuel surcharge of $53 USD per person per day. Fuel surcharges will be added to 2023 invoices in the coming weeks.
Please note fuel surcharges are not applicable to agent commissions.
We recognize these unforeseen rising costs are an inconvenience to us all and we’re sympathetic to that fact. Although this may be unwelcome news, it is a necessary action to ensure our operations can continue."
