The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) will hold a virtual advocacy town hall at 1 p.m. EDT on 11APR 2022 to share analysis and action plans following the Federal Budget, which will be released on 07APR. The town hall is open to travel agencies, travel agents and independent travel agents.
ACTA will also share information on Canadian government travel restrictions and measures, and its advocacy plan to help ensure that the industry is best prepared for potential and future COVID variants of concern.
In addition, ACTA will be joined by senior leaders at WestJet who will provide attendees with an update on the airline. In addition, both parties will be available to answer questions following the presentations.
Those interested can register for the Town Hall here.
As Open Jaw reported last week in anticipation of the upcoming federal budget, while bookings are reportedly going up, ACTA highlights that the travel industry has a long way to go before full recovery. Existing wage and rent subsidies for hardest-hit businesses, including those in travel, have already begun winding down and are due to end entirely on 07MAY.
ACTA has been lobbying the federal government on behalf of agencies and independent advisors since the release of the last federal budget, and is asking for he extension of current programs – at their highest, not a reduced level – through JUL. In addition, ACTA President Wendy Paradis believes the sector specific Tourism and Hospitality Recovery (THRP) financial support program should also be extended due to the unforeseen emergence of the Omicron variant, which had a "devastating impact on the travel industry" from DEC 2021 through FEB 2022.
