Updated: U.S. Law Banning Unvaxxed Canadians at Land Crossings Extended Indefinitely

US border to remain closed due to delta variantSome Canadian travel hopefuls were excited about 21APR.

That’s a day that’s been marked on the calendars of unvaccinated Canadians since the Biden administration enacted border restrictions requiring vaccinations to enter the United States.

The travel restrictions went into effect on 22JAN, and were set to expire 21APR at 11:59 PM Eastern Time.

CBP  at the Alberta-Montana border reportedly told Alberta media the agency “had heard a decision was coming on the 21st (of April)."

And that update came 21APR with a notice from the Department of Homeland Security extending the ban on unvaccinated non-Americans crossing the land border from Canada into the U.S.

The DHS announced it will extend temporary requirements for non-U.S. travelers entering the United States via land and ferry points of entry at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide proof upon request.

The agency said the extension was made in consultation with the CDC "and several other federal agencies."

But it didn't give a new expiry date for the policy.

Instead, DHS said it, "will closely monitor all relevant circumstances, including the effect of these requirements, and may amend or rescind the requirements at any time. In determining whether and when to rescind this order, DHS anticipates that it will take account of whether the vaccination requirement for non-U.S. air travelers remains in place.

"This announcement does not affect requirements for entry into the United States by air."

Separate sets of rules apply to air or sea travel between the U.S. and Canada. In addition, current Canadian regulations as well as CDC cruise guidelines adopted by all major cruise lines mean flight and cruise pax to the U.S. will also still require to be vaccinated.
