Where were you born? In Kingston, Jamaica.
How long have you been in the business? Wow. The summer I was 15, I worked at a small hotel. I did everything – front desk, waiter (a poor one), housekeeping. Back then I wasn’t too happy, but when I look back on it, it was fantastic training.
What did you want to be as a kid? At first I wanted to be a farmer, until I learned about the long hours. So I switched to pilot, because of the cool uniform.
Ever had a brush with fame? Many…I once went swimming with Tyra Banks in Port Antonio.
What’s the scariest thing you’ve ever done? Moving from Jamaica to Chicago in the dead of winter.
Any guilty pleasures? Watching football (as in soccer) and eating soy patties - I’m a vegetarian.
What’s your favourite airline? All airlines that go to Jamaica. My least favourite are the ones who don’t. (laughs)
Any hobbies or interests? Volunteerism – it’s very important to me.
What’s your favourite all-time movie? Cocktails.
When were you happiest? When I’m with my daughter Zoë who’s 22 months. She’s at the age she thinks she can hold a conversation.
What keeps you awake at night? The fact that when I’m sleeping - I think there’s something I should be doing.
What’s on your iPod? Everything from old-school reggae to blues. I love all genres of music.
Who do you most respect in the industry? I learned a lot from Richard Brandson, I think a borderline genius. And my boss, Director of Tourism, John Lynch.
What is your greatest extravagance? Italian leather shoes. Gets me every time.
If you could sit next to anyone on a long-haul flight, who would it be? My wife because she really looks out for me. I’m 6’5” and she makes sure I’m comfortable.
What book is on your bedside table? My iPad. I’m watching old Jimmy Cliff music videos.
What kind of car do you drive? A Nissan Murano. A mom-mobile.
What is your “must-have” item when on the road? My iPad. Have to have it.
How much do you travel each year? Last year I travelled 60 nights away.
What’s your favourite destination in Jamaica? Depends on the mood and whom I’m with. I have to say the West End of Negril.
What are you really bad at? Putting down the smartphone.
What do you hope to be doing in 10 years? Walking on the beach in Negril (with my smartphone!) and my daughter. Assuming she still thinks I’m cool!
