Shhhhhhh. There are people recovering out there.
It’s always a happy moment when the invite to itravel2000’s Christmas bash plops through the virtual mailbox. After all, what other invitation always reminds you: “Don’t forget to book the next day off!”
The hallways of travel emporiums throughout the greater Toronto area must have been quiet yesterday, judging by the excellent turnout. And no wonder, with the substantial munchables, unlimited adult beverages and a-list industry attendees, hosted with great zest by itravel2000’s very own Jonathan Carroll.
This year there were also a number of non-industry folks, including a group from People With AIDS, one of the charities supported by the mega travel agency – definitely deserving of the sparkliest get-up award, in a room full of sparkling outfits.
However there was no shortage of travel folks milling about, chatting, gossiping, and – as the tunes morphed from 60s nostalgic to a thumping club vibe – shouting with each other. It was a good occasion to pick folks’ brains on their New Year’s Resolutions.
Mondial’s Dianne Jackson vows to, “Keep my eyes open and be smart,” while Joanne Dhue of the Sunwing Travel Group plans to, “Get healthier, eat better and get more exercise.” (Hmmmm…bet you’re not alone, Joanne). Karen Stephenson of the Grenada Board of Tourism vows to, “Not sweat the small stuff.” Thomas Cook Group’s Linda Wright declared she will live for the moment and Mary Anne LaChance of MSC Cruises went on the record with plans to, “Feel more joy and less stress in everything I do.”
“Be fulfilled, have balance and give back,” were the words of Erica Henry-Jackman of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Office. And Transat’s Suzanne Diefenbaker wants to make sure everyone in her call centre has a good time.
However, the most imaginative (and perhaps career-saving) resolution was that of itravel2000’s VP Brad Miron, who plans to, “Stop giving Jonathan wedgies.”
Merry Christmas, all, and thanks again itravel2000 for a fabulous evening. See you next year!
