It’s been 3 and a half years since the fire that devastated the iconic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris and its restoration is moving on to another phase. The spire will be rebuilt as it was previously, but the area around the cathedral is changing with a focus on awareness of climate change and a new idea of public space with tourists in mind, reports the Globe and Mail.
A rework of the cathedral’s surroundings is scheduled to begin in 2024 and will add hundreds of new trees and a water feature - intended to make line ups more comfortable on hot days. A new visitor centre will also be constructed. French officials plan to reopen the cathedral in DEC 2024 and complete restoration the following year.
