Travel Companies Rebuked for Exploiting Wildlife for Entertainment

As the awareness of sustainable travel increases, one aspect of responsible tourism - the exploitation of animals - is still too often overlooked by consumers and operators, says a new study by World Animal Protection and reported by Skift.

The report claims too many operators are “failing wildlife by selling exploitative experiences and attractions or by operating their business without concern for animal exploitation.” It adds that well-known travel brands that promote or offer wildlife activities legitimize inhumane treatment of animals to consumers.

The new report builds on a 2020 tracking of the animal welfare policies and practices of operators including Booking.com, Expedia, Flight Centre, TTC and TUI.
