Pang Chang Kamala Elephant Camp in Phuket says it has purchased six new elephants to welcome tourists, particularly Chinese visitors. According to owner Wittaya Taweeros, the camp has also added new programs such as elephant care due to a rise in bookings after the Lunar New Year.
As reported by Skift, Thailand’s controversial elephant tourism business is showing no signs of slowing down in an effort to target Chinese visitors, who accounted for nearly one third of arrivals pre-pandemic, part of the country’s wider efforts to recover from the pandemic.
