African destinations have taken steps in recent years to move away from an emphasis on safari tourism, and some of them are focusing more on the cruise industry, which is expected to make a complete global recovery by the end of 2023, reports Skift.
One of them is Kenya, where a new cruise terminal in Mombasa welcomed its third ship in a two-month period in late JAN 2023. Kenyan authorities expect three more cruise ships to dock at the terminal by the end of MAR. Seychelles is also making a significant investment in its cruising infrastructure, which projects 18 ships to dock at Victoria and other islands on the archipelago during the ongoing cruising season. According to Skift, both destinations are looking to emulate the success of South Africa has had in cruise tourism, particularly in Cape Town, which is expected to see close to 250,000 travelers pass through its terminal by the end of MAY.
