One travel industry expert is warning pax to “expect some challenges” next month for March break “but fewer than we had before,” reports CBC. Another consumer advocate agreed that there is a risk of a repeat of some of the problems that affected travellers over the holiday period.
John Lawford, executive director of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, told CBC that in order to prevent a repeat of the same issues, Canada should adopt similar regulations like those European airlines have to follow. He said the biggest difference in Europe when it comes to pax rights and regulations is that travellers get compensation for flight delays or cancellations unless there are “extraordinary circumstances” like natural disasters, not typical Canadian cold weather or not having enough aircraft. Lawford added that even though March break is coming soon, the federal government could make regulations that would immediately apply.
