The government of Mexico has permanently banned shark-related tourism around Isla Guadalupe, considered one of "the best places in the world for white shark cage diving,” reports USA Today.
The volcanic island about 160 miles off the coast of Baja, California was declared part of a Biosphere Reserve in 2005 by the government. In JAN, it cracked down on marine activities in the region, banning sport fishing, drone photography and all shark-watching activities “to avoid altering their habitat, behavior and feeding sites, and thereby preserve and conserve the species,” the government said.
