Vancouver Tourism Says Lack of Hotel Beds Will Cost B.C. Billions

Destination Vancouver released a study on 06MAR saying a lack of hotel rooms will soon cost the province’s economy billions in missed tourism revenues.

According to the tourism study, demand for rooms in the summer will exceed supply by 2026 in the City of Vancouver, while Metro Vancouver will experience shortages by the summer of 2028. The study forecasts year-round shortages will affect the entire region by 2040. Tourism officials estimate Metro Vancouver needs 20,000 rooms, and the City of Vancouver needs 10,000 rooms.
