Toronto Pearson Using Artificial Intelligence to Optimize Gate Turnaround Times

In what airport authorities are calling “another step towards digitization,” Toronto Pearson has announced it’s using Assaia ApronAI at all of YYZ’s 106 gates to “help enable smoother, faster and more predictable operations.”

According to Canadian Aviation News, Assaia’s artificial intelligence solution tracks aircraft turnaround performance — that is: physically preparing an aircraft when it lands until it takes off again for a new flight. By monitoring aircraft turnaround activities in real time, the AI data “will be used to highlight and address inefficiencies, and to provide accurate estimates of timeliness to increase gate availability, improve on-time performance and be more transparent with passengers,” the airport says.

“We’re creating the airport of the future, and innovation in apron operations will directly improve the passenger experience,” said Deborah Flint, President and CEO of the GTAA.
