Brazil Reintroduces Visa Requirement for Canadian, American, other Tourists

Beginning 01OCT, 2023, citizens of Canada, the U.S., Australia and Japan will once again be required to obtain a tourist visa before travelling to Brazil, the Globe reports.

The country had dropped the visa requirement under the previous Bolsonaro presidency in 2019 in an effort to boost tourism. However, the new administration is reinstating the border policy.

According to reports, the reintroduction is a matter of reciprocity. All four countries require Brazilians to obtain visas to enter their countries. The government of Brazil says it is prepared to negotiate visa waivers on a reciprocal basis.
