Well, the pink ladies did it again: another wonderful day of fun, food, friendship, fellowship and fundraising at WinterBoob has come and gone.

Held as always at the charming Hockley Valley Resort, the 8th annual WinterBoob once again saw dozens of the industry’s movers and shakers convene to ski, spa and socialize. Not to mention help raise thousands towards the fight against breast cancer.

As in past years, both skiers and spa-ers had a nice mix of competitions and social events, including boob tossing, name that tune, name those famous boobs and a fab auction at dinner to top it all off.

Stuart Morcombe took home top honours in the Skidaddle ski race, while Pierre LePage was crowned “most determined skier.” WinterBoob’ers also took part in the WestJet karaoke “Will sing for giftcards” contest; Frank Orlando, in a win that shocked not even the waitresses, took home the prize in the annual Bra Off as the fastest-removing-the-bra-from-the-mannequin-one-handed-while-blindfolded and Karen Scott-Caplice was judged the most athletic indoor games competitor for her win in the Travelsavers Titty-Toss and Pin the Boobs on the Babe.

Apart from the general wackiness, why come to WinterBoob? Alio’s Michele Rauzon told me, “It’s the best event in the industry: you’re working but you’re not working.  And on top of that, it’s for a great cause!” Stuart Morcombe loves the camaraderie and the people, while Orlinda Howard of Hotel Connect came all the way from L.A. to support breast cancer research and to network. According Universal Orlando’s Lidia Markser, “Everyone I would want to or need to talk to is here, so it’s great networking.  The travel industry is like a family so it’s like a family reunion.”

And in a comment that says as much about her as it does about WinterBoob, Vacation.com’s Christine James said “Even when I was bald from chemotherapy, I came along to WinterBoob.”

Where was Ivanna Gabbalot in all this? Alas, we just missed her again: rumour had it she was an early arrival and disappeared with Sven, chief masseur, into the couple’s massage room at the spa never to emerge.

Never mind, we all had a blast, and at the end of it all Open Jaw’s Nina Slawek declared WinterBoob 2011 a serious success. Last year the event raised $43,000… and this year’s tally? It’s still being finalized, but the donation to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada will definitely be north of $50,000 – and we’ll let you know when the final $ amount is in.

The WinterBoob online auction also played an important part in driving up the donation. Here is a list of the successful bidders:

  • “The Cure” luggage set courtesy of CAA: Ricky Goldman, Goldman Marketing Strategy
  • Carnival Cruise Lines Caribbean Cruise for 2: Christine Jeynes, CTC Travel Group

  • Pretty in Pink Bag & Bubbly Combo courtesy of Travel Counsellors: Jennifer Armstrong, Advantage Travel

Congratulations to all - we appreciate your support!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen. See you on the slopes next year!
