Carnival Cruises has seen booking volumes exceed 2019 levels in North America, though the catch-up is slower in Europe, Asia, and Australia, the company said in an earnings call 27MAR. North America booking rates have been greater than 2019 for six months now and booking lead times are at their highest since 2019. This is despite Carnival charging higher ticket prices than many of its competitors.
The rebound has been slower for the company outside of North America. Executives stated during the call that the loss of China has been particularly impactful. China has not reopened for international cruises since the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the country accounted for a million visitors.
