Canadian Government Upgrades Risk Levels in Some Parts of Mexico

The Canadian government has upgraded regional travel advisories warning travellers against non-essential travel in some parts of Mexico due to threats of violence from organized crime.

The advisory to avoid all non-essential travel includes the states of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas, and Zacateca, all Colima except Manzanillo, all Coahuila except the southern part of the state at and below the Saltillo-Torreón corridor, all Durango except Durango City, all Guerrero except Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo and Taxco, all Michoacán except Morelia, all Nueva León except Monterrey, all Sinaloa except Mazatlán, and all Sonora except Hermosilla, Guaymas/San Carlos, and Puerto Peñasco.

The advisory comes after four bodies were discovered at a Cancún resort.
