Travel Agents' Growing Cruise Sales May Reverse Trend To Direct

Cruise bookings by travel agents started to rebound in 2022, PhocusWire is reporting. According to Phocuswright’s U.S. Cruise Market Report 2022-2026, agents’ proportion of cruise bookings dropped to 52 per cent from 70 per cent in 2019. But in 2022 that number was 59 per cent, and the Phocuswright study is predicting that by 2026, 71 per cent of cruise bookings will be done by agents.

The shift to direct bookings was considered a result of to cruises offering shortened itineraries during the pandemic, often including domestic trips which were easier for travellers to plan themselves. At the same time, travel agents were busy dealing with cancellations and rebooking cruises.
