WestJet Pilots Still Without Agreement, Head Into 21-Day 'Cooling Off' Period

WestJet pilots so far have not been able to reach an agreement with the airline, meaning a strike could be coming, CTV News is reporting. As Open Jaw reported, 93 per cent of pilots voted for a strike earlier this month. Negotiations have been going on for over seven months.

ALPA, the union representing the pilots, and WestJet were in a 60-day federally-mandated conciliation period, which ended 24APR. The end of the conciliation period means a mandatory 21-day “cooling off” period has begun which will end on 13MAY. If no agreement has been reached by then ALPA will be able to issue a 72-hour strike notice, and the union will be in a legal strike position on 16MAY.
