Canada and the U.S. have recently heightened travel advisories for the Dominican Republic, which Dominican Today reports is due to concerns about crime in the country. As of 26APR, Canada is warning travellers to “exercise a high degree of caution” due to concerns over violent crimes such as robberies, assaults, and homicides, particularly in major cities and tourist areas.
Additionally, the Canadian travel advisory notes that thefts and opportunistic crimes occur most frequently in hotels, beaches, airports, bus stations, and public transport.
