American Airlines Pilots Authorize Strike Action Heading Into Summer

Although job action is seen as a remote possibility, American Airlines pilots are part of increasing pressure on airlines for workforce gains as Yahoo Finance reports they have authorized strike action ahead of the high summer travel season.

96 per cent of AA’s 15,000 unionized members voted in APR, and 99 per cent of votes cast were in favour of a strike, their union, the Allied PIlots Association, said.

Nonetheless, American Airlines didn’t blink. "We remain confident that an agreement for our pilots is within reach and can be finalized quickly. The finish line is in sight," the airline said in a statement.
