TICO: Jail Time for Accused Convicted of Accepting Payments and Failing to Book Travel

After being charged by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO), Libia Ysabel Guerra Paez and Representaciones Neward Inc. were convicted of one count each of operating as a travel agent without being registered, TICO said in a release.

Guerra Paez was further convicted of one count of being an officer or director and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence. TICO noted that both operated without TICO registration, and accepted consumer payments for travel services without booking travel for the consumer. Representaciones Neward Inc. was fined CAD $12,500, inclusive of a victim surcharge, while Guerra Paez was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two-years probation.
