Labour Expert Says WestJet Pilots Have a 'Strong Case' as Strike Looms

Geraint Harvey, a professor at Western University and an expert on labour relations, says the WestJet pilots have a “fairly strong case” when it comes to negotiating their new contract with the airline.

As reported by the CBC, Harvey noted for Canadian pilots, “the terms and conditions of employment…isn't especially great.” According to the CBC, there is a 50 per cent gap between the salaries of Canadian pilots and those in the U.S. Harvey highlighted that WestJet pilots’ ask for a pay increase reflects that terms and conditions of employment have deteriorated “across the board” in Canada.
