Lost Luggage: New Tech, Trusted Tips

A surge in lost luggage in the post-pandemic travel recovery has instilled fear as peak summer travel approaches.. In response, airports and airlines are ramping up efforts to mitigate the issue, and there are a number of measures travellers can take to help their bag make it safely to its destination, reports the New York Times.

New technology is being introduced at some airports to help bags move through the conveyor belt maze quicker and more efficiently, such as electronic bag tags and the ability to automatically reroute lost luggage.

Travellers can do their part by arriving early, flying nonstop when possible, removing any previous bag tags or stickers, choosing a type of bag that is easy to identify and packing essential items in their carry-ons. They can also take advantage of luggage tracking abilities, if applicable, or place an Air Tag inside their bag in case it does get lost.
