Mexico Peso Clarification
Open Jaw

Regarding the new U.S. dollar regulations recently implemented in Mexico, Open Jaw received clarification from a representative of the Mexican Tourism Board on a key issue. A number of documents have been released citing a limit on the individual U.S. dollar purchase amount which can be made in one transaction. To be clear, there is no limit whatsoever placed on Mexican businesses as to the amount of U.S. dollars they can accept for goods and services. It is up to their discretion. The new regulations only limit the daily exchange of U.S. currency to $1,500.

Retailers subject to this restriction will undoubtedly limit the amount of U.S. currency they take in. Therefore, visitors are being advised to be prepared to use Mexican pesos for purchases or to use credit and debit cards.
