Swoop’s Closing Will Not Take Flair Away From Regional Airports, Flair CEO Says

Flair Airlines CEO Stephen Jones said the shuttering of WestJet low-cost carrier Swoop will not affect Flair’s presence at the Waterloo, Ontario or other smaller, regional airports, reports Waterloo’s Record.

As Open Jaw reported, WestJet will begin integrating Swoop into its mainline operations by the end of OCT, and observers warned that might lead Flair to redirect its network to capture Swoop passengers out of Hamilton, London and Toronto.

Flair has brought a surge of passengers to the Waterloo regional airport since 2021, when the regional government gave it temporary, exclusive rights to certain routes, and Jones said he doesn’t see the demise of the rival airline “causing a dramatic re-organization of our network.”
