The ArriveCAN app, which launched during the pandemic as a communication and screening tool for Canada’s border services, saw low usage rates by the start of 2023, reports CBC.
The app was made optional in OCT, 2022, and just over a tenth of international arrivals used the app between JAN and APR 2023. The app’s digital advanced declaration form can by used by pax arriving at 10 Canadian airports and saves travellers time being processed on arrival.
Critics argue that the app was a waste of money and poorly executed, while the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) expects uptake to increase as availability grows and as digitization of all modern aspects of life continues.
