Low-cost Icelandic airline PLAY commenced its first Canadian service to Iceland and Europe with its inaugural flight from John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) on 22JUN.

The Greater Toronto Area airport is PLAY's first Canadian destination, joining its existing North American routes in New York, Washington, Boston, and Baltimore.

In honour of the new Canadian service, PLAY Airlines has also announced a flight sale with discounts of up to 25 per cent on fares to European destinations including Iceland, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, London, and Dublin.  The sale began on 19JUN and ends on 25JUN for travel between OCT 2023 and MAR 2024.

Fares start at CAD $129, excluding taxes and fees.

PLAY operates a young fleet of ten new Airbus A320/321neo planes with an average age of around two years. By using Iceland as a hub, the airline provides flights between Europe and North America. The airline achieved an 87 per cent on-time performance (OTP) rating in the month leading up to its first flight from the GTA.

“We are excited to have PLAY join Hamilton International Airport network and bring connectivity to over 26 exciting European destinations, via Iceland,” said Cole Horncastle, executive managing director, John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport.

“PLAY’s low-cost ‘pay for what you need’ model aligns perfectly with Hamilton International’s commitment to bring more travel options and affordable airfares to passengers in Southern Ontario and continue to drive economic benefits for the City and the region.”
