Intrepid Sees Strong Growth For Adventure Travel From Canada
Open Jaw

The adventure travel sector is growing by leaps and bounds around the world, but James Thornton, Intrepid Travel's general manager of global sales, is predicting that some of the strongest growth will come from Canada.

"Canadians understand and support our concept of sustainable travel," says Thornton, "Plus the economy in Canada has not suffered the setbacks that some other key countries - such as the U.K. and the U.S. - have."

Thornton, who was recently promoted to the newly-created position, also commented on the solid increase in the number of female clients at Intrepid Travel. "Adventure travel is by no means just for 20-something males. In fact, our largest single demographic are women in their 30s," he pointed out.  Intrepid's female clients tell the Melbourne-headquartered company that they appreciate Intrepid's small groups (usually no more than 12), the security of travelling with a knowledgable guide, and that the company promotes sustainable travel.

Since Intrepid established its Canadian sales office in 2008, the company has seen growth of 73% in this market. Currently, South America, Egypt and India are its top selling destinations from Canada.
