ORD Still Clearing Backlog After Tornado Touch Down Wednesday Results in FAA Ground Stops

Tornadoes in the Chicago area on 12JUL caused flight cancellations and delays at both of the city’s international airports which are still clearing on 13JUL, reports Simple Flying.

A tornado was seen touching the ground on and off near the airport, prompting hundreds of people to seek shelter at ORD airport’s concourse until at least 8:00 p.m. on 12JUL. There were no reports of injuries or damage at either O'Hare or Chicago Midway International Airport.

According to FlyChicago.com, by 1:00 p.m. on 12JUL, 329 flights at O'Hare airport were cancelled, with 293 flights facing delays of 45 minutes or more. Midway International Airport experienced similar issues, with more than 250 flights delayed and 32 flights cancelled on the evening of 12JUL.
