According to the New York Times, cruising is coming into its own with new audiences who snubbed the vacation option as corny in the past.
Cruising is gaining popularity among millennials and Gen X’ers seeking affordable alternatives to high airfares and limited land accommodations. A CLIA survey shows 73 per cent of young travellers are considering cruises, with 88 per cent of millennials and 86 per cent of Gen X first-timers willing to cruise. In addition, cruise tourism is projected to reach 106 per cent of 2019 passenger volume in 2023.
To attract new passengers, cruise companies are offering themed sailings, adult-only cruises, and shorter-duration trips. River cruises and boutique-style experiences are also on the rise. Convenience, inclusive amenities, and the chance to explore multiple destinations without packing also appeal to younger generations.
