American Airlines Increases Offer to Pilots by USD $1 Billion, Matching United

American Airlines has raised the value of its contract offer to pilots by more than USD $1 billion in response to a warning from American's union that that ratification was at risk, reports Reuters.

The carrier has proposed a four-year contract worth USD $9 billion, matching the rich deal United Airlines made with its pilots. The new offer includes matching pay rates and retroactive pay, along with extended sick leave and increased life insurance.

United's pilots are set to receive cumulative pay raises of 34.5 per cent to 40.2 per cent over the four-year period.
