Air Canada ranked last in on-time performance (OTP) — arriving at the gate under 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time — among nine North American airlines in JUN, with 53 per cent of its 33,544 flights arriving on time, reports the Toronto Star.
U.S. carriers such as Alaska Airlines and Delta Air Lines achieved on-time rates of 80 per cent.
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) has been striving to improve performance after last summer’s delays. However, with Air Canada responsible for over half of Pearson Airport’s operations, experts fear its struggles will continue to impact overall on-time rates. Factors contributing to the delays include the fact that Air Canada is running a full-capacity fleet, as well as weather conditions and ongoing labour shortages at NAV Canada.
