Greece experienced a third heatwave on 25JUL, pushing temperatures above 40 Celsius in some areas following evacuations from fires that have raged out of control for days, reports Travel Weekly.
The ongoing fires prompted further evacuations on the islands of Corfu and Evia, while the blaze on the island of Rhodes continued to move inland, devastating forested areas including part of a nature reserve. Over 20,000 people, mostly tourists, have been evacuated from the affected areas.
The EU has sent 500 firefighters, 100 vehicles and seven planes from 10 member states so far. Turkey, Israel, Egypt and other countries have also sent help.
