Finland Becomes First EU Country to Trial Digital Passports

Finland has become the first country to launch a trial of digital passports as part of an EU initiative, reports Business Travel News Europe.

Finnish citizens travelling on Finnair flights from Helsinki to the UK can now register as a voluntary user of Digital Travel Credentials (DTC). The DTC serves as a digital version of the physical passport, providing a smooth and secure border crossing experience.

Participants must register at designated police service points and follow instructions from the Finnish Border Guard. The trial is available for flights to London, Manchester, and Edinburgh until FEB 2024. The EU is co-funding the project and plans to test it in Croatia later this year.
