NASA Moves Closer to Achieving Supersonic Passenger Flights

NASA is moving closer to the possibility of achieving supersonic passenger flights, reducing travel time between New York and London to just 90 minutes, reports Caribbean News Digital.

Since the end of Concorde in 2003, fast transatlantic flights have become a thing of the past. However, NASA's recent study suggests that commercial flights travelling over 3,000 miles per hour could become a reality.

The study focused on transoceanic routes and proposed the development of "quiet" supersonic aircraft, which could overcome current bans of overland supersonic flights.

Boeing and Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems will be working on designing high-supersonic speed aircraft as part of NASA's Advanced Air Vehicles Program.

NASA aims to present findings and recommendations to U.S. regulators in 2027.
