Travellers with disabilities heading to Europe need to be aware of potential challenges due to differing regulations between jurisdictions, reports USA Today.
Jill Moore, an accessibility professional, recounted her experience with KLM on a recent trip to Barcelona. Despite having no issues on the outbound flight to EU, she encountered problems on her return journey. KLM denied boarding on the U.S.-bound flight, stating that an able-bodied chaperone was required.
The mix up is because E.U. regulations differ from U.S. regulations, and 48-hour advanced notification is mandatory for Special Service requests. Moore's case highlighted the need for harmonized regulations and better communications with pax who need accommodations due to disabilities.
