Tourist Taxes: List of Countries to Charge Entry Fees in 2023 or 2024

The resurgence of global travel post-pandemic has led to overtourism challenges in popular destinations, reports EuroNews.

In response, many of these places have adopted a 'tourist tax' as a measure to alleviate pressures.

While tourist taxes have been around for some time, their prominence and rate adjustments are notable in recent developments. For instance, Barcelona plans to incrementally increase its tourist tax, while Valencia is set to introduce one in 2024. Places like Olhão in Portugal, Thailand, and Venice have also initiated similar measures.

Furthermore, in 2024, the EU will implement a tourist visa for non-EU citizens.
