Globus Adds New Tours, Avalon River Cruises in Portugal

Globus family of brands’ bookings for Portugal in 2023 were up 80% over 2022. Recognizing this trend, in 2024, Globus and Avalon are offering new tours, a new river ship and cruises.

According to the company, Portugal is the "grapest" new wine destination.

In 2024, Globus is offering a new tour, including extensions to the islands of Madeira and Azores.

Taste of Portugal - 11 days from Porto to Lisbon, including:

• Porto. Nestled along the Douro River, Porto pulls you in with its cobbled streets and world-famous port wine.
• Coimbra. Once Portugal’s medieval capital, perched along the Rio Mondego, this city offers a blend of history and "youthful energy."
• Lisbon. Set against the backdrop of seven hills, Lisbon offers "a blend of old-world charm and modern dynamism" from historic tram rides art scene.

Globus is also  offering two new extensions to its Portugal product:

• Madeira. Known as the “Garden of the Atlantic,” this Portuguese archipelago is "perfect for outdoor enthusiasts" while also serving wine connoisseurs with its Madeira wine.
• Azores. Dubbed the “Hawaii of the Atlantic,” the Azores offer experiences ranging from whale-watching and hiking volcanic craters to soaking in geothermal pools.

Avalon Waterways River Cruises

Avalon Waterways' new Avalon Alegria, specially-built for the Douro, debuts in MAR 2024. The Alegria will feature Panorama Suites on two full decks for a total of 102 guests, and a pool on the Sky Deck.

Avalon’s new cruise includes “Classic,” “Discovery,” and “Active” excursion choices. Featuring Amarante – in the Minho region, known for its golden church that dates back to 1530 – to the architecture in Salamanca, Spain; rock art to riding bikes from Porto to the sea, the company says guests on this cruise experience medieval castles, scenery, and the flavours of local wine, bread, olives and cheese.
