Singapore Changi Airport, one of the world's busiest airports, will soon reduce the need for travellers to present their passports, reports USA Today.
A new law allows for passport-free travel starting in the first half of 2024. Instead of passports, biometric sensors will be used for departing passengers. This move aims to offer a more seamless and convenient processing experience, accommodating the increasing traveller volume and strengthening border protection.
Government officials highlighted the importance of efficiently managing the growing number of travellers while ensuring security. The airport already employs facial recognition at checkpoints, and similar systems are in place at certain U.S. and Dubai Airports.
