The European Union has delayed the launch of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) from mid-2024 to MAY 2025 due to setbacks in the rollout of the Entry/Exit System (EES), Travel Agent Central reports.
The EES, designed to register non-E.U. Nationals' short stays and enhanced border efficiency by replacing passport stamping, faced new delays.
ETIAS aims to allow visa-exempt travellers short-term entry into the E.U./Schengen Area, with the authorization linked to the individual's passport. ETIAS will be initiated approximately five to six months after the EES becomes operational.
