Pomfret, Vermont, renowned for its autumn foliage, has restricted access to two local roads due to an overwhelming influx of influencer tourists, from 23SEP to 15OCT.
The decision, impacting popular attraction Sleepy Hollow Farm, addresses increased traffic causing safety, environmental, and quality of life concerns, reports NBC News. This site has gained popularity on social media, with #sleepyhollowfarm reaching over 800,000 views.
Residents initiated a GoFundMe, raising nearly USD $15,000, to combat issues from increased tourism, including damage to property and environment, and confrontations with tourists.
They don’t want to deny visitors the delights of fall foliage altogether, though, with one resident telling reporters: “You can just drive up [Interstate] 89, which is our north-south throughway, and have a beautiful drive.”
