Biden Administration Warns U.S. Government Shutdown Could Disrupt Air Travel

If Congress doesn't pass funding legislation by Saturday, 30SEP, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the imminent dangers to air travel, noting the necessity to furlough over 17,000 FAA employees, including 1,000 air traffic controllers in training, reports the New York Times.

Notably, air traffic controllers and TSA officers would still work without pay. Existing staffing shortages at the FAA further exacerbate potential disruptions.

Past shutdowns have led to extended delays and longer wait times for travellers. The U.S. Travel Association highlighted a possible USD $140 million daily loss to the travel economy due to the shutdown.
