Federal Auditor-General Karen Hogan is expanding her investigation into the ArriveCan app's expenditure following The Globe and Mail's revelations of alleged misconduct.
Hogan expressed disappointment that the government had yet to inform her of the RCMP's concurrent investigation. The Globe's initial report highlighted the Canada Border Services Agency's alleged knowledge of improper contracting and close ties between the public and private sectors involved in the app's development, which cost CAD $54 million.
These findings prompted Hogan to include re-interviewing government officials and seeking new witnesses in her audit. Initially planned for a DEC report release, the Auditor-General now aims for early 2024. Hogan learned about the RCMP probe through the Globe, not from government officials, leading to significant concern among committee members.
